David Gibson, Artist and founder of Vision Sports Art

David’s love for art and drawing go back as far as elementary school but really didn’t take off till he hit High School.  Alot of David’s drawings are done in black and white using a graphite pencil. However in 1989 he started drawing using PrismaColor drawing pencils. That is when his talent really started to shine through.

Being a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1967, a lot of his drawings are of either current or past Cowboy players. While most of David’s subject matter relates to sports he has on occasion ventured into other subjects. However, his relationship with football and auto racing has always brought him back to drawing the stars and heroes he loves best. You will see a lot of Hall of Famers and future Hall of Famers on the site, because that’s where he believes the true players of the game exist.

David has been an Art teacher in the Vernon Parish School system in Louisiana for 19 years. He has currently been teaching at Pickering High School for 12 years as the art teacher there. He also coaches varsity football and boys track at Pickering High School. David’s first love is coaching and boasts that one of his greatest achievements was starting a softball program at Rosepine High School 14 years ago. This is a program that still thrives to this day. During his high school years David played football for Leesville High School and competed on the track team in various field events. In the 70’s, David had the opportunity to get behind the wheel several times on the local ¼ mile dirt track as well as working there too. He assisted in the pits as an official and also on the flagman stand during races. David graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA with a B.A in Art Education. While attending McNeese State David had the opportunity to watch Joe Dumars,. Who was a MVP for the Detroit Piston’s during the days of the bad boys. Joe was an all star player for McNeese before being drafted by the Piston’s. David also has had several of his art work autographed by the players who is in the art work like Kevin Mawae(Jets), Rusty Wallace(NASCAR), Bob Lilly(Cowboys), Tony Dorsett(Cowboys), and Harvey Martin(Cowboys). In fact Kevin played football at Leesville High School while David was teaching there.

David is happily married to Michelle and they have two children that they are very proud of, Derek 19 and Jennifer 15. Michelle has been a registered nurse for 21 years and currently works as a Director of Nursing for a local nursing home. Derek is currently a freshman at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La. Derek had a very successful high school football career at Pickering and played in the state high school all star game in Tiger Stadium at LSU. David and Derek love to watch NASCAR racing events and have made it a ritual to attend the spring race at Talladega Super Speedway in Alabama for the past 10 years. As a family they have also attended the Pepsi 400 in Daytona Beach, Florida.  His daughter Jennifer is in 10th grade and plays trumpet in the band. She also loves sports and plays softball on the Pickering High School softball team as well as participating on the Power lifting team placing 3rd in state competition along with her brother who also took 3rd in his weight division.

We at Vision Sports Art would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting us on-line and hope that you tell your friends about David’s wonderful God given talent. Although drawing is only a hobby for David, after viewing some of his work, I’m sure that you would agree that this could be more than just a hobby.
